I think in the aftermath of Robin Williams' passing, amidst the recollections of our favorite films (which varied wildly, from Patch Adams to Mrs. Doubtfire and my personal favorite, Good Will Hunting) and our acknowledgements of his comedic frenzy and penchant for feel-good characters, the "Pagliacci Joke" is the moment that truly hit home the impact of this masterful personality.

Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, “Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says, “But doctor… I am Pagliacci.
