What makes you love this?
Hello, and thanks for checking out my profile! My passions in life are music and helping other people; and teaching lets me do both. It's the greatest satisfaction to see my students become better musicians and people; working through the unique challenges and rewards that musical training provides.
What's the neatest thing you've done in this field?
I've released two albums of mostly original music, and have several other albums' worth of material written to be recorded. As a composer/songwriter I take pride in building my catalog steadily. I won a fingerstyle guitar contest in 2014. As a solo musician I've been hired nearly 80 times through The Bash, and played countless other solo and band jobs.
What's the coolest thing you helped a client do?
I believe in maintaining a high standard of excellence, while keeping instruction rewarding and fun. It's my goal that every student should achieve their own musical potential in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. I can say with pride that I've had many parents bring children to me who had been through multiple teachers and were close to quitting music. I reviewed any fundamental skills they were lacking with patience and lots of enthusiasm. Within a few weeks the parents reported their kids were finally enjoying themselves and making progress.
I've also had many adults, apprehensive about starting music late in life, develop musicianship far beyond what they thought possible.
As a good teacher, I try to teach at least one new thing every lesson.
I don't teach specific styles of music. Instead, I use established methods to build strong foundations in technique and theory. Pupils then apply these to any style of their choosing.
