What makes you love this?
I have been a musician since I was in the third grade. It is as important to me as breathing. I believe that it is important for children and adults to learn music. It is a very positive and powerful outlet. For children, it enhances their mathematical ability and their emotional intelligence. Music is a part of my life force and I am blessed to be able to share my gift with others and be a part of their musical journey.
What's the neatest thing you've done in this field?
Practicing is the key to success. To give a take on a well known phrase, "Practice Gets You Closer to Perfect." However, depending on the genre of music you are playing, perfect is in the eye of the beholder.
I personally practice daily. I have a tried and true warm up routine for trumpet that serves dual purposes. It warms up the embouchure and instrument and ensure the muscle is ready to perform. It also strengthens the embouchure through a systematic process of chord and octave progression.
I have played with the Count Basie Orchestra. I currently play in several bands and professional orchestras in Atlanta, Georgia including the Peachtree Symphonic Winds, West Side Winds Jazz Ensemble, Peachtree Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra Noir and Sol Rizing Reggae Band.
